"Intime" is a fictional installation proposed to help citizens comprehend the "Climate Clock" in a park in NYC.

“Intime”은 뉴욕시의 공원에 설치된 “기후위기 시계”에 대한 시민들의 이해를 돕기 위한 캠페인성 설치물입니다.

Issue 〉 Even though the climate change is having unprecedented effects on both nature and culture, we hardly bring an immediate stop to our "karma." There is a huge digital clock facing Union Square in NYC, called CLIMATE CLOCK — to highlight the remaining time for us to reduce carbon emissions. Unfortunately, we met a bunch of New Yorkers saying, "It's a very meaningful clock that nobody really looks at." It is ironical to see the busy people walking quickly in front of the clock that counts down to our deadline left about 6 years.

Proposal 〉 Time is a metric of change. But as time always does, six years can provoke the sense of both short or a long amount of time. For example, we say "time flies" when we realize some occations in 2017: such as the version of iPhone we used or the results of the presidential election, or from the absense such as: nobody played with AI-generated art. But it also seems like the long enough amount of time to plant 11.4 billion trees, prevent the 5mm rise of the ocean, or save 70–90% of coral reefs. To help people to understand the clock, the team thought about how to put our real lives into the amount of time that the CLIMATE CLOCK presents: we reframed a number in the past, present, and future — simply adding conjunctions of time and following sentences surrounding the clock — to intent the possible impressions  from memories, hope, and awareness. In short, we believed in the power of stories. 

문제 〉 맨하탄에서 유동인구가 가장 많은 곳 중 하나인 유니온스퀘어역에 설치된 “기후 시계"는 우리가 탄소 배출을 줄일 기간이 6년 남짓 남았음을 보여주는 설치물입니다. 그러나 지하철 시간을 따라 바쁜 걸음을 옮기는 시민들과 초단위로 줄어드는 거대한 마감일이 양립하는 풍경은 다소 아이러니하게 느껴지기도 합니다. 실제로 시민들을 인터뷰한 결과, 대다수가 해당 시계의 내용에 대해 알지 못하거나 관심을 가진 적이 없다고 대답했습니다. 

제안 〉 시간은 변화의 척도입니다. 따라서 우리는 같은 시간도 사건마다 매우 다르게 받아들일 수 있습니다. [Intime]은 이 시계를 지나치는 시민들에게 좀더 진정성 있는 기후위기 이야기를 전달하기 위해 기획된 프로젝트입니다. 예를 들어 6년이라는 단위는 때때로, 우리가 2017년에 사용한 아이폰의 버전마 당시의 대통령 선거 같은 사건들, 혹은 아무도 AI 아트를 가지고 놀지는 않았다는 사실로부터는 매우 짧은 것처럼 느껴지기도 하지만, 반대로 같은 양의 시간은 현재로부터 114억 그루의 나무를 심거나, 70-90%의 산호초를 살리고, 5mm의 해수면 상승을 막을 만한 기회이기도 합니다. 따라서 [Intime]팀은 시계의 앞뒤에 시간접속사 Before / In / After 와 그에 따라 일어날 수 있는 사건들을 나열했습니다. 과거(Before)로부터 시간의 양을 체감하도록, 기간(In)으로부터 주어진 기회들을 알도록, 미래(After)로부터 기후 위기들을 예측하도록 하는 것이 목적입니다.
